Iceland Helps Give Peace a Chance
The LennonOno Grant for Peace was created by Yoko Ono in memory of her late husband, John Lennon, to honor his dedication to peace and commitment to the preservation of human rights. Since its inception in 2002, the grant ceremony has been held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, but will now be hosted in Iceland at the historic Hofdi House.
Through the collective efforts of the Reykjavik Museum, the city of Reykjavik and with the blessing of the Icelandic people, the LennonOno Grant for Peace, along with a groundbreaking event for the IMAGINE PEACE Tower will be held in the city of Reykjavik this month.
The IMAGINE PEACE Tower, which will be built on the picturesque Icelandic island of Videy, will serve as a beacon of light and be symbolic of the world’s wish for peace. This tower will not only be of great importance to its future home, Iceland, but as well will hold significance to people all over the world. Both of these events among others will punctuate this memorable week of celebration and remembrance of the spirit of John Lennon. (For more information click here.)

SuperNova Stars Feast Icelandic Style
What do you serve the stars of the hit CBS TV show Rock Star? Recently, an epic meal was hosted by singer Magni – The Iceman – who finished in 4. place. Icelandic Chef
Volundur Snaer Volundarson was called upon to create a dinner in Los Angeles that included Icelandic Reyka Vodka Martini with a Cucumber Twist, Icelandic Brand Smoked Salmon, Icelandic Langoustine in Champagne Sevichi, Sautéed Icelandic Brand Halibut and Halibut Cheeks with Shitake Mushroom, and Icelandic Skyr with Fresh Berries for dessert.
For the daring, there were Sheep Heads, Shark Meat and Brennivin (Icelandic Aquavit). It wasn’t unusual fare for Iceland, but looked a bit strange served up in Lala Land. (For more information about the foods of Iceland, see www.icelandnaturally.com ).

They Said It
“I fell in love with the nature and scenery. And the people were so friendly and warm. I had a hard time leaving.”
-Model Olga Elnikova of Sakhalin, Russia speaking (and vogueing) in the October issue of Marie Claire magazine. A 12-page fashion spread titled “Viking Strikes” explains how to navigate winter's raw, organic landscape. The publication's “fashion team set sail for Iceland and found comfort in the season's ultra-rich, Goth-dark clothing, with all the robust, romantic trimmings.”
“In an area just larger than Kentucky, Iceland is home to more wildly varied landscapes than countries ten times its size. Volcanic moonscapes, massive floodplains, thundering waterfalls, and Europe’s largest glacier – they’re all within a day’s drive of the capital, Reykjavik. Activities are as bountiful as the imagination, but the Middle-earth topography and ethereal subarctic light make an adventure of just breathing the Icelandic air.”
– Steve Casimiro. To test the hottest innovations in cool weather clothing, National Geographic Adventure headed to Iceland for the perfect seven-day trip. See their 8-page fashion spread in the October issue.
“It is easy to imagine Jules Verne in a place such as this — filled, as it is, with otherworldly shapes and colors. But if the varied and contrasting landscape of Iceland makes you think of Verne's adventures, it also calls to mind the words of poet Robert Frost: ‘Some say the world will end in fire/Some say ice.’ Frost himself holds ‘with those who favor fire,’ although he admits that ice ‘is also great/and would suffice.’
“After viewing the power and effect of both these forces throughout this beautiful country, it kind of makes you wonder which side of the debate you'd favor.”
– Carma Wadley, Deseret News, Salt Lake City, Oct. 1
