 On January 2, 2004 Laugar
SPA, one of Europe’s foremost Health
SPA’s and Fitness Centers, opened in
Reykjavík.
Size matters
Laugar SPA is adjacent to
Laugardalslaug, Reykjavík’s largest
Thermal Bath and Pool. The
total SPA facility covers 18,000
m2 (194,000 ft2), which includes
indoor and outdoor 50 m pools and
numerous hot pots.
Laugar SPA itself is 5,100 m²
(55,000 ft2) in size. It includes a
modern fitness center equipped
with the latest exercise apparatus,
and has a capacity of 450 people.
There are three rooms designated
for various types of physical training,
in addition to a good stretching
and rest area. Laugar SPA is an
integral part of Laugardalur Valley,
Reykjavík’s premier recreational
and athletic park. This centrally
located area has numerous athletic
halls and arenas, for example a skating
rink, and a tennis and badminton
center. There is a Family Park
and a Farm Zoo where Icelandic
animals, domestic and wild (seals,
reindeer, etc.) can be viewed.
Laugardalur Valley also has
a beautifully arranged botanical
garden, two soccer stadiums, walking
paths, and various services for outdoor activities, as well as refreshment
facilities.

The pride of Laugar Spa is its 500
m² (5400 ft2) bathhouse. There are
several saunas and steam baths kept
at varying temperatures, seawater
hot pools, whirlpools, foot pools and
even a cold waterfall for bathing, in
addition to a room with comfortable,
heated benches and a hearthside for
relaxing. Afterwards, guests can enjoy
light refreshments peacefully sitting
in front of the fireplace.
The bathhouse is like wine in a
desert for those who wish to relax,
enjoy peace and quiet, and
just let stress and tiredness
gently fade away. A variety of
personal services is also available,
such as several types of
massage and mud treatments.
Also available are beauticians,
hair stylists, manicurists, and
pedicurists, among others.

Laugar SPA’s size makes
it easy to provide good
service to both large and
small groups, and is ideal as
a venue for meetings. The
restaurant and catering facility
can handle anything
ranging from gourmet or cocktail parties
to simple meals

or outdoor pools, or exercise in the

is possible–if not advisable–to relax
