Reykjavík Excursions
– A Good Idea

Reykjavík is different than all other capitals in the world. It is a large city with a small population, but together with its neighboring towns this metropolitan area is large by Icelandic standards: the total population of Iceland is only 290,000. Yet despite the small number of residents, Reykjavík offers an amazing array of activities. Cultural life blossoms, nightlife is very colorful, and many excellent restaurants offer a diverse range of dishes created from fresh, unadulterated Icelandic raw materials. In addition, Reykjavík is next door to beautiful, pristine nature at its best.

Reykjavík Excursions
Reykjavík Excursions specializes in sightseeing trips for tourists. Next summer the company is offering 18 tours, most of them operated daily. It is hardly possible to imagine a less expensive and better way to see Reykjavík and vicinity than on one of these excursions, and Reykjavík Excursions turns them into journeys to remember. The coaches are first-class, and the well-educated guides have extensive knowledge about Iceland’s history, culture, and nature. The best way to begin a trip to Iceland is on a trip with Reykjavík Excursions – even if you have a personal itinerary for the rest of your stay. A day-tour
with Reykjavík Excursions is really a short course on Iceland past and present, filled with tidbits of exciting and interesting information about the country. After one of these excursions, travelers are much better prepared to enjoy the rest of their visit.

Reykjavík
Everyone visiting Reykjavík should begin with a city sightseeing tour with Reykjavík Excursions. After this two-hour tour it is easy to travel much of the city on foot. Old Town reminds one of a small village: charming, old houses, curious shops, museums, restaurants and lively coffeehouses. Just outside midtown are shopping malls, beautiful nature, and interesting walking routes. Of great importance is the friendly attitude of Reykjavíkers, most of whom speak English. There are few places better for an American to visit than Reykjavík.

The Golden Circle
Reykjavík Excursions offers an excellent selection of organized tours. The Golden Circle, for example covers some of Iceland’s most popular natural wonders, such as Gullfoss Waterfall, Geysir geothermal area and Þingvellir National Park. Then there are the exciting adventure trips such as Mystical Snæfellsnes, which includes a snowmobile ride on Snæfellsjökull Glacier, the one that author Jules Verne made famous in his novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Ever Changing Iceland is a trip where participants learn about Iceland’s geological history, as well as about national life. In June, July, and August there are there are offshore cruises to see the blue whale, the world´s largest mammal. This is an experience never to be forgotten, and a trip around Snæfellsnes Peninsula and the Breiðafjörður Fjord Cruise are adventures into nature unlike anywhere else. Breiðafjörður Fjord has an enormous number of islands, some say innumerable! The wildlife in the area is both diverse and awe-inspiring: whales, seals, and many species of nesting birds. The views of the mountainous landscapes from the boat are extraordinarily beautiful. This is most definitely a trip that all visitors to Iceland shouldn’t miss.

Thorsmörk
Another sightseeing trip goes to Thorsmörk, a beautiful nature reserve situated between three glaciers. Thorsmörk is one of the most spectacular places in Iceland––a truly magical place to visit. Reykjavík Excursions owns and operates numerous mountainhut facilities in Thorsmörk: two of the huts have bag-sleeping accommodations for up to 130 persons, another house has 13 twin rooms, and 8 small cottages can each sleep 4-5 persons. Facilities in these huts are excellent.

Austurleið scheduled routes
Reykjavík Excursions also operates Austurleið, a yearround scheduled bus service from Reykjavík, with routes stretching throughout the south of Iceland and east to Höfn. Austurleið also runs the scheduled bus from Höfn to Egilsstaðir, and traverses the Sprengisandur highland route, during summer. This comprehensive network of scheduled busses is an inexpensive and flexible way to travel.

Service all the way
Reykjavík Excursions operates the Flybus transit service between Keflavík Airport and Reykjavík. This makes it ideal to combine the trip to the airport with a visit to the Blue Lagoon, a natural health spa unlike any other––anywhere. A stop to enjoy this spa is the perfect way to enjoy an amazing moment before boarding the plane home.
