NEW YORK TIMES story
Iceland's Ring Road: The Ultimate Road Trip
"We lift off from J. F. K. at 9 in the evening, headed toward Reykjavik, and by the time the bars back in New York have closed, we are tucked in lava rock, submerged to the neck in a hot blue pool with sulfurous steam clouds bursting up around us. It's the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and the sky surrounding us never darkens." To read more go to www.goiceland.org
Thermal Pools and Spas
One of the delights of a visit to Reykjavik is bathing in one of the many thermal pools, filledwith geothermally heated water, which are found in every district of the city. Abundant resources of geothermal springs mean that the pools are always pleasantly warm, whatever the weather. Most pools are open-air. All have hot-pots to bask in before or after swimming, and most have waterslides for the young (and young at heart).
Reykjavik’s thermal pools are open from early morning until late in the evening. A ten-visit season ticket is valid for all the city pools. There is simply no cheaper or healthier way to experience Reykjavik! http://www.spacity.is/
A DAY AT THE ZOO
The Reykjavik Park and Zoo is an ideal place for a family outing. The Zoo includes both domestic and wild animals: there are about 150 animals of 19 species, including all farmyard animals such as horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, hens, dogs and cats. Wild animals include seals, foxes and reindeer.
After seeing the animals at close quarters, perhaps seeing the seals fed or riding an Icelandic horse, your children will definitely enjoy the rides and activities in the Family Park.

Golfing around Reykjavik
How does the thought of teeing off in the middle of the night strike you? If you're planning on taking a trip to Iceland in the summertime, the Midnight Sun means you can golf around the clock.
There are many 9- and 18-hole golf courses in Reykjavik and nearby communities. Icelanders are keen golfers, and the country has over 70 golf courses.
The greens around Reykjavik offer some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. Many of the lanes run along the ocean and between mountains with lava fields stretching out in the distance. This is truly an experience you do not want to miss. Golf clubs generally welcome visitors, and clubs can be hired.
