Yoko Ono Hosts Peace Events in Iceland

Imagine Peace TowerMusic legend John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono is celebrating her late husband with a series of peace events in Iceland to mark what would have been his 70th birthday. The artist and peace campaigner will round off her activities with a performance by the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band on October 9th. She will also be presenting awards to figures chosen for their contribution to world peace with a biennial award created in 2002. After the award ceremony Yoko will light the Imagine Peace Tower illuminated memorial, which is located on an island close to Icelandic capital Reykjavik.

In 2007 Yoko Ono unveiled the Imagine Peace Tower, a beam of light emanating from a wishing well monument on the coast of Videy island. Created in memory of her husband, John Lennon, it bears the words Imagine Peace in 24 languages & is lit each year from Oct 9 - Dec 8.
