Why Iceland?

Why Iceland?
Because there’s no place else like it

Iceland — sounds far, doesn’t it? But not so! With less than five hours flying time from New York, Iceland is the closest European neighbor to North America. This means less time recovering from jet lag and more time for discovery. And discover you shall. There’s more than enough waiting for you to do — no matter the season.

OK, so we’re not exactly in the tropics over here, but it’s not nearly as cold as the tundra-sounding name implies. Icelandic winter temperatures are similar to those in New York and summers are easily described as refreshing. The real warmth in Iceland comes from the smiling Scandinavian faces you see walking down the street. Just stop an Icelander and say, “Hello,” — almost everyone speaks fluent English. Icelanders are very down to Earth. In fact, they don’t use ‘Mr.’ or‘Mrs.’ when addressing each other. Everyone in Iceland goes by their first name — the CEO of a large corporation, your math teacher, even the President!

This friendliness permeates the streets of Reykjavik as you inhale the brisk ocean air and walk down cobblestone sidewalks past brightly colored houses of red, periwinkle and green. You’ll feel at home in this small, charming city with as much entertainment, action and things to do as a metropolis of millions. And with all the modern conveniences, a high quality of life, and world class services.

Even so, it’s only a 15-minute drive between downtown and raw nature, whether you’re horseback riding through a lava field or snowmobiling past icy glaciers where you’ll feel you’re the only person on Earth.

Iceland’s unique ecology, friendly citizenry and unmistakable sense of style combine to form a nation like no other on the planet. Where else in one place will you find 800 hot springs, 10,000 waterfalls, 15 active volcanoes, and 4,500 square miles of glaciers?

Iceland is the ideal place for taking a break on European soil where pristine nature, ancient culture, modern luxuries and creative atmosphere bring inspiration and a unique energy. Iceland is a place like no other. You can see and do things here that you can’t anywhere else in the world. Not too many countries have those bragging rights. Iceland is a place you could go on discovering forever.
